This turned out to be an awesome tournament for the Rampage. It was a beautiful weekend in Tallahassee with some outstanding competition including our nemesis (and friends) from First Coast, and the number 6 and number 8 teams in FL, the Wave and Tallahassee United, respectively.
We played the flat back four for the second tournament in a row and it was clear the boys were getting the hang of it, allowing only 2 goals all weekend (one of which was off a free kick). Amazing stuff. Credit to Connor, Ethan, Tyler A., Trace, and Taylor in particular who played a super intelligent game in the back. Camp was also stellar in the goal. The effectiveness of the flat back four depends a great deal on tough play in the middle, which we got out of TJ, Trevor and Mitchell.
We had some exciting goals this weekend also. In our game vs. Destin, TJ knocked in a tying goal in the second half which set off a flurry of goals, by Mitch and Tyler A. In our third game vs. First Coast, down again 1-0, Ethan tied it up for us and Tyler B put away the game winner late in the second half. And in a very tough championship match against KYX Erik gave us a super exciting goal in the final minutes to give us a 1-0 championship victory!
Each tournament we name a player of the tournament who displayed outstanding sportsmanship, leadership, and other Rampage qualities. This time the honor goes to Ethan who has played with tremendous heart all year and always leads by example. Congratulations, Ethan, and to all 14 that traveled with us to Tallahassee! Great stuff, guys.
