This was one of the toughest tournaments we've participated in. We were seated in a bracket with three region cup champions and to make things even more challenging our number one goal keeper was missing. But the boys rose to the challenge and managed to beat Clearwater in game 1, a great team that is ranked #3 in FL, was the Region C champions, and a President's Cup Finalist. Game two was against a fast, physical Miami Lakes team, also a region cup A champion and President's Cup final four team. We had the ball skills to win this one, but failed to stop their speed up top. In order to advance to the semis, we needed to get past a tough, well coached East Lakes team. East Lakes was a Division 2 region cup champion in Region C and is a team moving forward to Division 1 in the USA league in Tampa. It was a tough first half, ending with a 0-0 score. But in the 2nd half, the Rampage turned it on and found the route to goal, scoring four unanswered goals. In the final minute we gave up a PK, but the 4-1 score was enough to advance the Rampage to the semis.
The semi final was quite a game. The Rampage played as well as they could, but Palm Beach was a super talented team. They had one player in particular named Wilson, who likely we'll see on ESPN one day. He was without question the faster player I've ever seen. We were simply out matched physically in this one, but played to our potential. Palm Beach went on to beat Miami Lakes in the Championship 2-0.
Every tournament, we name a sportsman of the tournament. This time the honor goes to all thirteen players that traveled with us to Orlando for a hot and challenging weekend. Congrats also for a fantastic 2004-05 season!
Mitch and I will miss you all. Come visit us in Idaho.
