It was a great day of soccer in Keystone. We traveled to this one with three teams that we entered as U10, U11, and U12 teams. The U11 and U12 teams met in a cross over game, but played in separate divisions. The boys showed great stamina, playing 5 or 6 games each. They looked a bit fatigued towards the end (who wouldn't be?), but stayed mentally tough. They amassed an amazing 113 goals! (A team record for one day.) More important, they all had a great time, and played with a great deal of class, poise, and sportsmanship. I thought this particular 3v3 tournament was a bit of a turning point for many of our players. I saw not just some, but every one of our players sorting out very smartly small sided tactics. It was neat to watch our kids make mistakes, adjust, and improve their play all day long. On several occasions our teams were down by as many as 3 goals, but made some adjustments, kept their heads and their cool, and overcame the deficit.
We had some exciting games. The Rampage U11 and U12 teams faced off in a great game. Our U11 boys game back from a deficit to tie the game, demonstrating how competitive and talented all of our boys are. The U10 team had a spectacular overtime finish against a very tough Viper team. With about 60 seconds remaining in OT, AB subbed himself in and knocked in the game winner to make our U10 boys the division champs. In the U11 championship, the boys faced off against a tough and determined BK Hurricanes team. With about a minute to go and the score tied 4-4, Landon laced one to give his team the championship win. The U12 team gave us beautiful soccer all day long and put on a clinic on how to play the game. They were incredibly fun to watch. All in all it was a very successful weekend. Congratulations to all three teams on advancing to their respective championship matches.
Each tournament we announce a sportsman of the tournament. This time the player-coaches, Tyler, Trace, and Andy selected their team mates, TJ, Landon, and Camp for the honor. Congratulations to all three and to all 15 who traveled to Keystone for a great day of soccer. You put on a great show.
