Cold Weather Gear
All players must dress properly for cold weather play. Cold muscles lead to injury and poor play.
Each player is provided with warmups. These were provided to be worn in cold conditions, not stored in their bag or kept in their closet. It is mandatory that players wear their warmups during cold weather. Do not bring your warmups to games in your bag. Have them on when you arrive.
During games players should also wear a long sleeve, pure white t-shirt under their jersey. No other color except white may be worn. If desired, two t-shirts may be worn.
With permission from the referee, goalies may be permitted to wear long pants and a warmup jersey. These clothing must not have zippers or pockets.
All players may wear soccer gloves. These are special gloves that have rubberized palms to allow players to throw the ball in easily. Players will not be permitted to wear big furry gloves knitted for them by their grandmother. (Field player gloves are hard to find in youth sizes. I found some at http://www.gotsoccer.com/Equipment.htm, item GP-1.)
Players may wear black goalie or sliding shorts under their regular shorts for added protection and warmth. With the exception of the goalie, players may not wear long pants while on the field during games.
Players are welcome to wear any warm athletic wear of their choosing to practices provided that the clothing does not have pockets, belt loops, or zippers.
All players are provided with a team cap that they may wear to practices and games. My understanding is that it is the at the referee's discretion whether the caps may be worn during games.
During cold weather games it is recommended that players bring blankets with them to use while on the bench. (However, it is expected that players will prefer being on the field to under the blanket...:-)
Players that, in the opinion of the coach, are not dressed for cold weather conditions may be benched until properly dressed and warmed up.
